I used to play PSX a lot before I got my own PC, but now that I have my own PC the PSX collects loads of dust. I've upgraded my PC from 350MHz to 1.7GHz (AMD) and loads and loads of other upgrades, total cost from nothing to where I am now is probably around $800 give or take (all my hardware and known costs are on my site). Now I'm sorta anti-console/pro-PC, but I still love my DS cause it's not a console, it's very unique and very portable and very fun. I'm all set for online DS with a wireless router, which is needed for all 5 desktops, 2 laptops, and iPAQ to connect. Also have a 4mbit/384kbit cable connection to handle all the online gaming and stuff. I'm behind on a few things such as audio hardware and motherboard/CPU, but as long as I can game without much lag I'll be happy. I wonder why so many people have problems with viruses and bugs and all that junk, but I need to remind myself that not everyone spends some 50 hours a week on their PC to teach themselves all the wonders of all the software (especially freeware and built-in) that can fix those problems. I almost never get blue screens unless I get a badly programmed game that doesn't like my video drivers, and viruses don't have a chance with my router firewall and anti-virus, topped with ePrompter to delete spam without the bad code ever touching my system. Also, a PC monitor properly set up (which is really easy BTW) has a much better refresh rate than most TV's, so less strain on the eyes, my monitor is set for 85Hz, which is the highest this old thing will go.
Handhelds and consoles have more variety? I don't think so, PC's are frequently custom built (the best kind IMO) and most PC companies like Dell will let you pick from their limited selection of parts, so PC hardware varieties are endless. As for software, there's loads of freeware and retail games as well as demos and stuff, so that means there's got to be more games available for PC, and lots of completely free stuff you can only dream of on a console.
Anyways I could go on and on about how PC's>consoles, but I need to hit the sack...
I'm a PC guy myself. I got u beat though. LOL. My only console I have ever had is NES. BUAHAHAHA. Funny but true. lol.

My PC:
AMD 64 3200+
1GB PC3200 RAM
320GB SATA RAID 0
RADEON 9800 XT

all that stuff overclocked. Its uber fast. However it is loader than my 15 year old fridge. LOL. I need some liquid cooling. LOL
