My only real problem with open source is that there's so many freaking versions of stuff that basically does the same thing, it's hard to know what's the best. I tried Linux Mandrake 9.0 about 3 times, I found out how to play the built-in games and a few other simple programs, but everything else just puzzles me. I can see myself taking months to find out how to set up a server, but that's probably just cause I prefer teaching myself over reading For Dummies books, asking friends and Google searching is usually what I do when I'm totally lost, which usually doesn't help half the time. I'm happy with Windows, it does what I like to do very well, which is gaming and chatting. I'll learn Linux one of these days, but it's not a priority since I can do just about everything I need to do with what I use now.
I'm a big FPS fan, but even then I only pick a few favorites and ditch the rest. I like BF1942 and Quake and UT2004, but I don't really like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty since it's all the same stuff to me.
I don't play RPG's much, although I've been addicted to one on PSX and Golden Sun. There's only one MMOG I play, which is downloaded software (or a free CD in mail for dialup users) and $5/year for basic membership, I'm a member from the beta days so I have lifetime membership (cost me a one-time $30 I needed to pay in a small time slot). I refuse to go with any other MMOG that costs, because they're all too expensive and I don't want to let addiction take me away from the games I'm already addicted to. BTW that one MMOG I play is called
There, and it's not an RPG, more like a virtual world or second life, whatever you want to call it.
