Well I have completely changed my view on GoldenEye: RA. Although the game has a few flaws the game is still really fun once you get into it. I really hated this game until I got to the 4th level. I have found that to have fun you must make every shot precise, perform different moves, and know your favorite weapon combos (my favorite is either 2 mombos or a sniper rifle). There are a lot of available weapons; to my knowledge it is all the same weapons that are in the [cruddy] console versions. Well the game has a speedy plot that is semi-comprehensible. The main plot is that you are a M16 (a double O) agent gone evil and you have a new eye because Dr. NO ‘eliminated’ the other one. Now you have joined up with Goldfinger to ‘defeat’ (a.k.a. kill) Dr. NO. The plot gets pretty hard to understand because as you are being told things you are being shot at. All along the way you are receiving eye upgrades such as the ability to see through walls and to create a force field. This twist to the game helps a lot if you can get your hands on a rail gun. I enjoy sneaking up on people and shooting them through a wall w/ a rail gun or sniping them w/ a sniper rifle. The use of the touch screen is ok, but a Simon Says key pad is pretty lame for security for a casino vault. The screen gets really cramped when you are trying to turn on/off you GE abilities, but it is pretty easy to pick up weapons. The graphics of the game are pretty good but when there are +4 enemies on your screen the game slows down a lot and gets really choppy. The framrate stays at about 30fps and most of the game is smooth. There are only a few enemies and the AI is pretty stupid on easy, but is much more arduous on medium and hard settings. The sound has been greatly criticized by everyone but I like it. It sounds like the old SNES games’ MIDI music. The gunshots and groans are pretty good. After each mission you are shown your overall rouge-ness and accuracy. Then you are award unlockable extras (such as virtual training missions, multiplayer maps and weapons and GE abilities. Although the game gets repetitive at times it is great for you if you really want a FPS and Metroid is too far away. I haven’t tried the multiplayer yet but I’ll tell yall how it is when I do.
My ratings:
Presentation: 6.0
Gameplay: 8.0
Sound: 6.5
Graphics: 7.5
Lasting ability: 8.5
Overall it’s a 7.5 due to rushed publication by EA and stupid AI. Its still a fun game, but EA… tut, tut you could have done better. But the game is worth $30.
