I'm going to have a rant.
Xbox360 has been slammed by some parts of the industry because they say that it isn't enough of a leap from the xbox. assuming the above are true (and there probably not) couldn't many argue the same for the revolution? according to these their are only 2 processors (1 dual core) the 360 has 6 (3 dual core) and the PS3 has 8. that is an embarrasingly low amount of processing power for the revolution.
On the other hand the graphics chip looks very interesting. It will probably have a somewhat similar design to the 360s chip but there will be differences aswel. of course at 600Mhz and 128MB of ram dedicated to it it competes with PS3s chip (and could beat it an many fronts). The 256MB of ram is a bit worrying. The one thing that developers want above all else in consoles is ram and lots of it.
So in alot of ways this sec really doesn't make sense. Nintendo work with elegance and effcency rather than raw power. The GCs fromt side bus, processor and ram all go at the same speed whic removes wasted clockcycles. Of course the revolution won't be as efficent.
Many worry that the revolution will be very weak in power due to its size. But in the world of technology size means very little. There is only one reason why 3 processors (each dual core) and a 500MHz graphics chip cant be put into a case that small and thats heat (ok costs is also a factor). With a case that small getting hot air out is going to be tricky. But who knows maybe they'll use water cooling like the 360 or they may go for something even better like liquid nitrogen (id love to see that).
I hope the above spec is being conservative because nintendo need to have the third parties on board. If the machine is so underpowered that they cant port PS3 and 360 games and porting revolution games will take alot of work to get them to PS3 and 360 levels then nintendo can say goodbye to them (unless of course revolution gets a majority market share).
If i was to guess a spec it ould be
2 Hollywood/Broadway (i forget the codename for the processor) processors going at 3.0GHz, each dual core so there are 4 processors)
Ati Hollywood/Broadway (delete as appropiate) chip similar to 360 going at 500MHz with 128MB of GDDR3 ram.
64MB of XDR ram (used for core game components and commonly used files)
384MB of DDR2 @ 700MHz (for everything else)
That would be my guess anyway.
