The Battlefield series (especially BF1942 and BF2), UT2004, and the Half-Life series, all good games. I agree UT2004 handles performance really good on older PC's, but not a whole lot better than other games. With Half-Life, you'll need to deal with Steam, which can get incredibly annoying. There's demos for all of those games so you can see if your PC can handle it and maybe a little bit to see if you like it.
