RE: My complete DS impressions + reviews
So anyway, Sprung is a decision chosing Date Sim that allows you to play as either a guy or a girl. This is a step up from some of the other japanese similar date sim games you maybe familar with. The game is rated T for Teen so nope, not hentai, sorry guys. But if you're looking for a game that involves macking with a sense of humor yet clean enough to be played in a public place, this game is for you.
Date Sim games aren't common in the US so if you give this game a try you'll be in for a real treat. Since this game isn't your traditional game I'll be reviewing this a bit differently. Time for the breakdown.
Graphics 6/10
You wont see anything special like those of any SquareEnix games but hey the art is good here. As you see your character and the character you're talking to, there is mild forms of animations. Not just blinking eyes but hand movements, facial expressions, and various forms of emtions, all going through fairly smoothly from one to the other. For some of you guys out there, you will notice some bounce in the girls too ^^. The art work is good, sexy, and stylish so yeah, its all good.
Sound 7/10
You wont notice remarkable music here, just music that works well in theme for the situation. Its not like you'll be humming any tunes but its not like you'll dread the music either. The sound effects is near non existant, what I mean about this is that there's so little you'll not even notice it. So anyway everything is well placed in game but not outstanding. Then again think of it this way, what do you expect from a dating sim game.
Story 10/10
He he he, now this is where the heart and all of the game resides. Yup, this is a full on story game with no button or touch screen skills necessary. When you lack gameplay like that then you must back it up with a story and this game delivers. Story is simple, you are trying to get hooked up with someone and there are many to choose from. Choose the right choices, use the right items at the right time, and hopefully you'll end up with someone. You'll probably feel yourself actually getting involved in this make believe person. So when you do start feeling this way, turn off your game and talk to someone real, then come back and play some more. See the effect of story?
Gameplay 5/10
No skill required, just a brain and some pheromones. You pick and choose decisions and the outcome is all up to what you picked. Each stage has a certain objective that you must fulfill and its up to you to talk your way through it. You can use items at various times to help you pass your objective but that's basically it. Be prepared to be reading a lot of text.
Replay 3/10
I dunno about replay in a game like this. Once you finished it once you could play it again but you probably know most of the texts and outcomes so you'll probably skip all that and just try to go on a different path. Trying to fulfill various scenarios and potentially achieving new endings will have its limits as far as replay is concerned. After all, when its ALL said and done, what else is there to do? Well, pass it around with your friends, I'm sure enough they'll be eager to play this game as long as ya get something in return. This is a game that only one person in a group of friends should get and perhaps later you may even sell it away for something else. Perhaps some of us love the text so much that we'll play it again in the future but hell tell me the truth, do you still play those date sim games you download off the net after you unlocked all the endings?
Conclusion
Welcome to one of the first date sims that could potentially lead onto others. Packed with loads of humor and various decision making choices the game will live a good while before you'll be passing it around. It's worth a try at the very least as a rental but if you have 30 dollars to shell out then buy it. For the first few hours you'll be hooked, but remember what I said, it may not last long as an attractive game when it's all said and done.
5.5/10
