In school of rock he was slightly annoying aswell but agreeing with what x999x said, Peter Jackson made a film which really hasn't been done before and he had the backing of all the god-forsaken fans of the books. My mum even likes the films...
Halo, if done right (obviously) is going to rock in my opnion. It better be epic and have the support from Bungee at least to keep vaguely to the story line.
