March 7, 2006 - Nintendo of America announced today that its Wi-Fi Connection service logged its one millionth Nintendo DS user. The company states that its an all-time gaming record, as it only took four months to reach this number with its first three online games: Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World, and Tony Hawk's American Sk8land.
"Players are embracing our model of a compelling, safe, easy-to-use wireless gaming service," says Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "Those 1 million users represent more than 27 million game sessions."
March 20th will mark the release of the fourth and fifth games in the US to use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Tetris DS will be the company's first online version of the puzzle game allowing for up to four players to compete. Metroid Prime Hunters, the company's premiere handheld first-person shooter, will enable four player deathmatching while supporting voice and text chatting in the game's lobby system.
