my first impression of linux was "nice but needs work". of course i was only judging based on the GUI (which is pretty seperate from linux...more so than the gui for windows). it takes alot of getting used to. ull need to learn commands to install some software but its not too bad.
the worst thing is hardware support. at the moment i cant connect wirelessly to anything. my dial-up modem doesent work and graphics support is a bit patchy. if i did alot of fiddiling i might be able to improve it but i couldnt be bothered :P.
overall i like it but i wouldnt replace windows with it. games are nasty to get running on it. but if u just wanna browse the internet (and use an ethernet cable) and use it for other things like word processing or as a server then its pretty kewl. and of course it costs us zip all :D. at the moment i use mandrake 10.1 which is way outta date so hopefully ull have a better initial experience than me.
