Just thought id introduce everrone to this. This is my weekly column. It'll be up every Monday. It'll have a main topic, then various other bits that are on my mind. Think of it as 70% articlie, mixed with a bit of blog.
Arcade Unit A Go-Go
To be brutally honest with you, out of all the last gen consoles, I favoured my PS2 to an extent. That was down to various issues, whether it be Blockbuster were still stocking PS2 games for rent (which is more than i could say for the GC), or the fact it had some of my most favorite franchises, the huge libary of games and support. It also was home to one of the brands that I've always had a soft spot for: Tekken. Yes, my love for Tekken has been no secret to TDS regulars. I own every Tekken game in exsistance, even the crappy spin off Death by Degrees for a short time. When I first saw the Tekken 6 clip at E3 '05, I screamed like a little emo-obsessed school girl watching Fallout Boy in concert. A year on, knowing basically all you need to know about the PS3 hardware, and which leaves the question, is my love for Tekken stronger than my resentment of the PS3 price tag?
In a word. No. Not even the promise of finding out the true ending to Tekken 5 can justify £425 (almost $800). And for anyone that's been living under a rock for the past 3 weeks, thats how much it'll cost you in the UK. Sure there's the now infamous "Core" deal, but even then, spending that much money, Sony try and make you feel like a peasent at £350 (~$650). Here you get bare minimum, the console, a wired controller, no decent sized hard drive, fine and dandy but as a futher kick in the balls, you get a cheap finish on the console.
So no, Sony, have not handled this entirely well, even with the core pack its still about £100 (~$185) more than a fully fledged Xbox 360 premium pack, and for a primium PS3 with a game? It'll be over £200 more then a 360 Premium. And that's not even taking into account what you could do if I was to compare a PS3 with a Wii in terms of price, but I'll leave that to you.
All in all, and which brings me to my articles title. Ive come to conclusion that it may actually work out cheaper buying an arcade unit. Yes, I'm going to do that, plus I'll get some seats as well, seats are always good.

-Well I preordered my DS Lite today. Got quite a good deal actually, £60 when I trade in my old model DS. Decieded to go with white after being put on the spot.
-Metroid online still has me hooked, and everything still seems to be working fine on Nintendo's behalf, but other than the whole homing missle fiassco, another exploit, in the form of just staying in Alt form the entire battle. The alt form is there for a good reason, but there should atleast be a good balance between the two (playing in normal FPS mode). Literally, you get into a battle with these guys and straight in alt form for these guys, and they never get out of it. Slightly put me off playing online for a few days.
-WIRL. You've probably noticed it's absence last week, well, it is back tomorrow, with two big exclusives for you guys. First Chuddys DS Lite Hands-on, and a full report/review of the recent Metroid tourny in London.
Well that's all for this week guys. Ill be back next Monday. Biggy out.
