its completely dependant on items unless you're opponent is a total nub

Even if one player takes far better lines, the person behind them could get a ton of items and win the race. Or the person that's behind might not get anything of importance. The problem is a Tyrant vs. Tyrant match depends entirely on who is in second come the last lap, and if they get a good item. If the person in second gets even a red shell, not even a blue one or lightning, on the last lap, it is likely to mean the difference between victory and defeat. If someone tries to item farm/sandbag during the race, they could easily be putting themselves at a disadvantage, due to the low acceleration of the Tyrant. If this technique pays off, the person in front would lose to a completely random factor. If a player doesn't attempt to grab the good items, and instead focueses on actual driving, they could still lose to a completely random factor. Granted, the same could be said of much of this in a snaking match between two egg1s, but usually the player in first will have time to recover before the other person catches up to them, unless it was a close race.
