2 or 3 years ago? Try SNES era. It depends who you ask what happened, but it's quite obvious Sony's intention was never to make a CD drive. Nintendo partnered with them to make a CD drive for the SNES. Sony, as the maker of so many consumer electronics, would have no problem doing so. So they partnered. But two years later, they still had produced nothing. At that point, Nintendo got wise to them, broke off their partnership, and Philips made the CD drive in a matter of months. Sony never intended to make any CD drive, they were just stealing technology and gaining information on the market for their Playstation.
