When I promoted Legault into an assassin I used him alongside Jaffar to decimate weaker enemy units in one blow. Assassins are the best units...That is if you raise thier defense with items, every other stat are above par.
As for the last chapter of fe7...whew. I had all 3 lords maxed out, raven, karla, bartre and rath maxed as well...I defeated all the generals but the reinforcements were unexpected...they killed my rath resulting in a retry....:/
EDIT: Your right, Emilia is the best general in the game if you raise her well
