The Club
Bought this today for PS3 and I have to say, its a true breath of fresh air in the overpopulated climate of generic shoot em ups. Its focus is on fast, frantic arcade like shooting, racking up combos by stringing together all of your kills. Maps are excellent and overall, this game has left me very impressed, but what else would i be expecting from the makers of geometry wars?
Anyone else played this? There is a genuine skill to master, and in the way you try to line up tricks in Skate or Tony Hawks, this has you doing it with the amount of kills you can make in quick succession and how stylish they are. Heck if you get good you can have a combo going an entire 5 minute round. Of course, your score multiplies by whatever your doing, so if you get a kill, forward roll, land a headshot then vault over a balcony into your next kill, your looking at some serious pointage.
The maps all have this very special buzz to them, their huge while feeling quite intimate, I haven't felt this in a shooting game since Metroid Prime Hunters. And just like that game theres a selection of characters- 10 to be exact who each bring something different to the table in their varrying stats.
Wow, this is gonna turn into a review so i best stop this here, but yeah, people should definately give this one a try, its also on 360 and PC later this month. Its a different, and new take on a tired concept, while at the same time being retro-ly blissful; feeling like an old school 2D shoot emup brought to life in 3D. Trust me, if you like your gaming hardcore and with a few reminders of how shooting games were, back in the early 90s, give this a go.
