The problem, as has already been mentioned, is that innocent people are being identified as terrorists and tortured. This can't be allowed to happen.
I agree terrorists don't really deserve any rights since many of them intended to kill themselves along with their victims anyway, but sometimes (I'd think) being merciful to them would give them a certain respect for us. Really the only thing to worry about if they aren't killed is if they escape to kill another day or manage to communicate and plan a terrorist action.

(for lack of a better way to put it) It's mostly a morality thing, but being merciful to people who deserve to suffer is usually better in the big picture than torturing the crap out of them, especially when it isn't proven to be the right person with the information so badly needed. Who knows, maybe some of the terrorists were just brainwashed and it wouldn't take much to change their views, kind of like an Iraqi kid I saw in the news who was convinced by a terrorist to be a suicide bomber and then a negotiator talked him out of it. It's a lot easier to get an enemy on your side if you show them respect. I'm not saying it's a solution for everything, but I think it's overlooked as an option far too often.
