Snaking

Post your comments about snaking in Mario Kart DS. Is it cheating, should it be allowed,... . In case you don't know what it is, it's when you do power slide boosts from left to right really quickly to go faster on straight tracks. If you can do it really well it's like having a constant Mushroom.
I personally use it just to beat the staff ghost times and the Grand Prix races.

It's cheap if you're using it against a noob... that's why I usually slow down in the middle of a race and wait for the other player(s) to pass me. Sooooooo booorrrring though. >< If someone snakes, of course, I'll have to as well.

It's cheating... Skill based or not, it's still cheating. However, I've given up on that. I will not snake unless the oponent does.

Great, the SSBM argument is gonna start all over again....

Snaking is not cheating. It is simply an advanced technique that was purposely put in the game.

Since shadowmarth seems to be knowledgeable about chess, I'll provide a simple analogy. Do you not castle just because your opponent never heard of it or isnt doing it? You use what you have to your advantage.

Castling is a technique that is built into the ruleset. If they don't know about it, then they don't know the rules. This was NOT built into the game on purpose. The fact that it was not is heavily supported by the fact that using it makes the item system, a central mechanic of the game, near useless by it's employ. The real argument in wavedashing is whether it was built into the game on purpose, because if it wasn't, then it's clearly cheating. The same is true here, but the question of if it was purposefully built into the game is much clearer: it wasn't, and it is cheating. I don't seek to argue, I seek to inform that you may stop playing unfairly.

Oh, and yes, the argument re-emerges: is using an exploit cheating? Well, you don't have to be a genius to see the answer...

From my understanding, it's rather simple. Unlike the true snaking of F-Zero GX. Speaking of which, the snaking of GX was undoubtably built into the game. How do I know? The staff ghosts used it. Hmm, what do you know, can't say the same about MK. I never snaked against my friends in GX, simply because I would blow them away, but I didn't consider it cheating because it was clearly built in, once more, unlike in MK.

yes, when racing against the computer they only use it around turns, and that is when they usually get their biggest lead, it is impossible to win if u dont know how to do it, and the computer does? thats not right

What? I'm confused. I've never seen the computer snake, they just use powerslide around corners. Powersliding isn't snaking.
