From what i can remember it was an "upgraded PS2" with a DVD recorder and it could view pictures and stuff

I just found this page of google it pretty much explains it
Also the many people called the PSone PSX so its pretty tricky. If someone is talking about a PSX game though they probably mean a PSone game.

Its an even more media focused Ps2 with DVD recorder and I think you could record films/shows of tv, stick your memory stick duo in it and transfer it over like that.
Never got released here, though I did see one at the Playstation Experience.

What's up with the PSP?

I believed it was the PS1 or atleast the small version of it:

This page sugest something different: http://darkwatcher.psxfanatics.com/console/sonypsx.htm

The Sony PSX is a high priced multimedia device designed to be the center of your home entertainment experience. Interesting enough, the PSX is driven by the "heart and soul" of the Playstation 2 console. Using nanotechnology, the two processors that power the PS2 ("EmotionEngine®" and "Graphics Synthesizer") have been placed onto a single chipset called 90nm EE+GS. This gives the PSX all the features found in the Playstation 2 console (Progressive Scan DVD playback, Music CD playback, Playstation 2 and PlayStation games). The new chipset allows for more added goodies such as the ability to receive analog television broadcasts to a built in TV tuner, record both DVDs (DVD-R and DVD-RW formats) and television (like TiVo), and allow broadband connectivity. The PSX even has a Sony memory stick slot for displaying digital photos on your TV. The powerful user interface allows for simultaneous actions (play a game while recording a TV show for example), and uses a firmware update system to add even more features to the PSX.
As of this posting, Sony has released at firmware update, which allows MP3 playback support, DVD+R / RW support, and 24X speed DVD recording. The unit is also capable of receiving analog television broadcasts to a built in TV tuner.

Two versions were released on Saturday the 13th December 2003 in Japan, one with 160GB hard drive (PSX DESR-5000 priced at 79,800 yen), and one with 250GB hard drive (PSX DESR-7000 priced at 99,800 yen).
An expensive, but truly interesting toy. No word yet on a release outside of Japan.

FACT: You would think for all that cost the PSX would come with a controller. The PSX comes with a remote, but the game controller is going to cost you extra! Also due to the placement of some ports, some accessories such as the PS2 multitap are not compatible with PSX.

I consider PSone to be the slim one and PSX to be the original, I think most owners of the original PS agree with me here. Maybe the original should be called PS1 since PS2 is the original PS2 and PStwo is the slim version.

I'm old enough to remember this.

The PSX was simply the original Playstation. The first one to hit the shops.

But then there is this, just to confuse things:
