I got my "new" DS today, and it's a bit different.
-The touch screen has a coating on it which feels less slippery, and makes it so the digitizer dots on the screen cannot be seen.
-The serial number starts with NU100, instead of NU401.
The sticker on the bottom is less shiny and kind of matte instead.
-In the little rectangle on the bottom which says "Nintendo DS", it is deeper engraved.
-The hinge is much firmer, and feels nicer.
-The grey "Nintendo DS" script under the touch screen has slightly thinner letters.
-It also came with another stylus, making my total three! And temporarily, my DS total is two!
-No dead pixels!!!! YAY.

Anyone want pictures?

RE: Advance Replacement Nintendo DS

Maybe you don't care, but there seem to be differences in manufacture of the newer DSs. These are worth investigating for the heck of it. I'm sure someone here finds this interesting.

RE: Advance Replacement Nintendo DS

Advance Replacement is the name of the service where if there is a defect with your product, Nintendo sends you a remanufactured one, and a UPS label to send it back with. They hold your credit card as collateral, but if the defective DS is returned within 21 days then any fees are waived due to the one year warranty.

In my case, I had one dead pixel. Not a huge deal but it bugged me so I called big N up last Thurs and now it arrives.

Interesting... My "launch day" DS matches some of that you mentioned.

First question that came to mind: What are digitizer dots?
My serial number starts with NU103 (and it was made in China if that makes any difference).
The sticker on the bottom isn't shiny...
The hinge seems perfect.
And obviously no dead pixels (I probably would've replaced it by now otherwise).
The other stuff will need a comparison.

RE: Sales on PSP

All DSs are made in China.

The digitizer is the actual surface which is touched if the touch screen is in use. The digitizer is visible at an angle, where it will appear as a grid of dots.
