I think you're correct about Sony going for 18+, whether intentionally or not. Nintendo on the other hand is going for all ages "from 5 to 95" as they say, and I think they're doing a good job at attracting older gamers as well as keeping their young fan base. The DS and Wii are two systems I'm finding have older people hooked on. My parents rarely ever play games, especially action games, and they both got hooked on ExciteTruck, and awhile back my mom used to play Brain Age.
BTW I'm 20. |

thanks Pilot ; you seem to know a good chunk about the DS so im going to just ask you directly ( it'll be much faster than waiting for others to reply )... how does the memory work w/ the DS ( game saves, etc. ) ?
if you get a black ds lite, do the finger prints really get bad and is wiping it down like i wiped my psp down going to fix the finger print problem momentarily?.... the MetroidPrime hunters game looks pretty good, especially graphics, you think more shoooters and or more games will come out for the DS that match up to MPH?.... is the Opera internet browser out in the US? sorry for all the questions, i DEEPLY appreciate your help! Warm Regards, notion

Game saves are saved within the DS card, but the DS itself has its own settings and memory for those settings (including Wi-Fi). The one thing to watch out for is that you can only use an online game with the DS that you first played online with per game, and if you want to play online with another DS you'll either need to transfer the Wi-Fi settings or lose your friend code and some other saved online info.
I'm not sure about the black DS Lite showing finger prints, I still have the original DS, but if I remember correctly one of the members here said it was slightly less noticeable than PSP. I'm surprised how little attention of both FPS and online the DS has been getting, so far Metroid is the only online FPS, but it could be that most third parties are slow at developing with the new technology and they have other games they're dealing with under a relatively small developer group. I believe before long we'll see a whole bunch of online games coming from third parties, along with an online FPS or two or three. I guess you didn't get to my reply in your other thread yet, but the browser is still TBA for the US. |

Ah, to answer your first question, I'm 19. I think I'll eventually get a PSP when FFVII: Crisis Core comes out. Other than that I have close to little reason to get one right now.
I agree that the PSP is directed more at older teens and onwards. The PSP strikes me as being a multi-function device that most would come to depend on for movie, music and game entertainment and portable storage. All of my friends around my age who have PSPs find this very useful. Something like this might be quite wasted on, say, an 8 year old kid though. The DS on this same comparison though would be more of a novelty with its dual screens and stylus but it goes out to a larger audience. I think the more functions something like this has, the smaller its audience would be. Browsing briefly through the games of both I'm familiar with, both have their share of mature games but the PSP's tends to be more than the DS'. Please do correct me if I'm mistaken. |

I'm 16. Perhaps you would like to set up an age poll? It can be done. And the DS game cards work like many other smaller media, like SD cards and Memory Stick Duos. It's more like flash memory, rather than a disk, so it can be easily re-written by the DS, so there is no need for a memory stick like the PSP and most disk-using platforms.

I'm 13 going on to 14. Like SM said the DS cards hold the saves in the game but the only thing is that there is a limited amount of room and/or save slots so you can't save a lot on the same game and on the same game card. The PSP saves on all memory stick duos so you can interchange each stick if one gets full. The DS card doesn't save like that.
