Wi-Fi is a certification for products operating under 802.11 standerds. Over the time it became interchengable with 802.11 to decribe wireless LAN functionality.
In english: Wi-Fi is wireless network. If you have one at home you have Wi-Fi. Wi-Max is totally new and improved wireless standard (802.16) which is going to be superior to Wi-Fi by far. Just compare the frequency ranges on Wi-Fi and Wi-Max. Wi-Fi 802.11b/g - 2.4GHz 802.11a - 5Ghz Wi-Max 802.16(revisions unknown) ranges from 10GHz to 66GHz |
