My DS arrived today as you might have read elsewhere, and I am definitely pleased that I opted for a black system over a white. Fingerprints are pretty obvious after playing for some time, but you don't notice them when you are playing and looking at the screen. The black system (imo) looks a lot better, and it only takes a minute or so to wipe it over and give it that sleek shine when you have finished playing so I think it's definitely worth it.

I didn't even need to play mine for the fingerprints to become obvious. I was in the process of replacing my original for it and it was full of fingerprints by the time I left the store. You can't really notice the fingerprints while playing because the inside of the DSL isn't glossy like the outside, and the outside is always facing away from you while playing. I don't really bother to wipe it off all the time, only when I feel the need, which is probably every couple weeks.
I still like black much better than white. I don't think many people these days like white over black now that the iPod used it all up.

Yeah, that's true. I just don't like anything white when it comes to accessories and games and such. Even with iPod, I opted for the black video iPod. Most people do prefer the black DS regardless of whether it leaves fingerprints or not, but it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day.

I bought mine 2nd hand and it was covered in fingerprints. I just got some vinager and wiped it clean.
