That's a false comment. Why do many (likely most) people still buy everything from "brick & mortar" stores? Because they don't understand the Internet. That lack of understanding causes them to pay sometimes over 4 times more than they need to. Humanity isn't naturally smart, so you can't trust the masses to go for what's truly best.
Anyway, back on track. I had an original DS for about 3 years before I was "forced" into trading it for a Lite. There are a number of trade-offs, but for the most part I think it just takes some getting used to.
The primary downgrade I think is the comfortability, it causes a lot more cramps than the original and the bottom corners dig into my palms when I'm gripping it during such intense games as AmplituDS (homebrew).
The backlight is definitely brighter and makes it easier to see in sunlight or show on camera, but there's still a bit too much reflectivity to easily view it with a camera in a bright environment.
I don't like the position of the Start/Select buttons compared to the original.
It's a fingerprint magnet.
The power port is smaller, which I suppose is nice, but it's so similar to a micro or mini USB port that I think they should've gone with a standard port such as those.
The power switch is a bit easier to accidentally hit since it's on the outside, so you could potentially turn it on or off by accident while it's in your pocket. I think it turned on in my pocket once because of it. With that said, save any games before stuffing it in your pocket if you don't want to lose anything.
The stylus holder is very well designed compared to the original, it hasn't slipped out of my Lite once and if it ever did I'm sure I'd notice while it was slipping out. I lost both of my original styluses because they slipped out without me realizing it and I didn't find out until I was long gone from where I lost it.
I guess that's all I've got to say about it for now. There's a few other differences but I don't think they're that big of a deal.
