VIII was overrated too. It was way too cheap in my book, being able to limit break whenever you wanted by keeping your health low, being able to summon every freaking round, and then there was Selphie and her utter cheapness limit breaks... For me, IX was the best, taking the series back to where it started. Plus IX had the coolest summon ever (but only in the cutscenes)...
A spinoff FF game using characters from a mainstream FF game, taking the series in a completely different direction, focusing on the airship aspect? I dunno, sounds like they want to try to make it kinda like StarFox with FF elements to me.
I haven't been impressed with the recent FF games. FFCC sucked, X-2 sucked worse (did it even have a plot?), and all those VII spinoffs flooding the market were hyped up so much that they flat out bombed.

FFVIII is highly UNDERATED. It can't be very overated because it never garnered a fraction of the popularity VII did, despite being better in every way. Did you just say Selphie was too good? You have to be joking. That ***** sucked...hard...

While I don't have a lot of hope for 'em, I do think DS and Wii Final Fantasy's have a better chance at really being good than the 'station ones, given that the move to PS2 is when the series started downhill...

(FFVII and FFVIII are PC games BTW. PS1 FTL)

Well I never had to touch that crappy controller to use the pwngness that is Squall. The PC versions are 100 times better, because you can hack them and screw with the models. You can actaully make FF7 playable by switching out Cloud's sprite...

I think i may have to download it then. XD I love hacking games. MechWarriors was fun to hack, just for the sheer hell of putting stupidly strong weapons on the smallest Mech. >_<
Hacking FTW!

I never said Selphie was "too good" I said she was "too cheap". Selphie as a character wasn't very good, but even you should be able to admit "The End" made any battle cheap (heh, its even usable in the last battle with Ultimecia, but you can STILL die after using it if Ultimecia hasn't gone through her boring death speech). As a side note, did you know Selphie was the only character you couldn't flip around all the way when you Scanned her?
I preferred Irvine. His limit was one of the best (especially when going for Tonberry King).

As a side note, I've only played the PS1 versions, not the PC versions (but never on a PS1/PS2). ePSXe made the games more enjoyable than even the PC versions would've been, with screen filtering/smoothing, save state switching for tough bits (or when you just want to know what would happen if you chose the other option), and the ability to speed up/slow down the framerate (skip through boring scenes where you ordinarily couldn't by setting the framerate to 200fps).

The End was based on chance, and it was uber-rare. A limit you get 1 out of every 100 tries, no matter how good it is, sucks, and is far from cheap.

Irvine was cool, but his limit was far from the best. Squall of course had the most wicked ultimate limit. Lionheart pwns Omnislash to hell and back.

I take it you never used the "cast a spell and pop the disc cover while using Selphie's limit" to manipulate the % of The End? If you popped the disc cover (which was hard to do with an emulator, but easy on a PS1) while casting a spell, the spell animation would not load ('cause the disc wasn't in), and you could keep hitting the do over option on Selphie's limit until you found what you wanted.

The problem with Squal's limit was it too was based on chance, and more often than not he did a crap limit when you really needed Lionheart.
