Hotel Dusk:room 215

My DS has been laying in a drawer for a while because of the lack of good solid titles that I want to play. Until Hotel Dusk came from gamefly. After readign the description of this game I decided to rent it and I wasnt let down. You play this game by holding the Ds like a book with the top screen to the left and the touch screen to the right. On the left screen is what you see from the eyes of the character and the right screen is how to move, interact, use, and explore youre environment. The right screen is a sort of top down view and looks a bit like a map. You play the role of Kyle Hyde who is sent to hotel dusk by his company that he works for. Door to door sales. Doesnt sound very fun right? Well not yet but as you talk to other people you slowly uncover kyles past about how he was an ex cop and was fired from the force. We dont know why yet but we find out as the game goes on. The game starts off slow as you explore the hotel and talk to the workers and the other people who are staying. The manager decides to put you in a room called Wish. Each room has a name like angel, hope, dreams and everything nice. But there is a story about the room called Wish. Very obviously they say the room grants the wishes of anyone staying in it overnight. Kyle is skeptical about this and about any of the stories he hears about this mysterious hotel. That is until he meets loius. louis was someone kyle has busted many times for various small crimes like picking pockets but he soon finds out louis was involved in something much bigger. I dont want to give anything else away cause ill ruin the plot. This game is fun and overall a great decent game. Some bad things are conversations are long and can be up to 5-10 minutes at some points. But also in the conversations you can choose what to ask people or to interrupt and ask certain questions. This can be bad though because if you ask the wrong question they might get mad at you and you might have to restart. This doesnt happen often though. Exploring is cool but often tedious. Having to examine then open doors instead of just walking into them makes the game take a little longer. Puzzles are often not difficult but some had me stuck for a bit. But these dont get in the way too bad from the overall gameplay. There are also some usefull things including a note pad where you can use the stylus to write down anything worth remembering. Sometimes this is essential during puzzles. Another cool thing is the ability to save anywhere. I know its not that big of a deal but sometimes it comes in handy. The game also has nice art. Although the graphics when walking around arent exactly the best. The conversations are very nice. when talking you are on the left screen and the person you are talking to is on the right. They have great black and white drawing artwork that has a shaky and wavy sort of look. It looks liek someone actually drew the people. Its hard to explain but I like it a lot. The characters seem to have preset expressions. where during the conversation the sort of shift and then stay in this pose until you furthur the conversation and they switch again to something else. The switch isnt instant but smooth in this black and white artstyle. Each character you meet has dozens of these expressions that make the game more lifelike and conversations not so boring. The characters really do seem to have emotions and if you insult them you better bet they will tell the manager and hell send you packing. Carefully picking and choosing what to say makes conversations fun.

Overall this game is a funny, mysterious, challenging, and a great game to play.

I give it a 8 out of ten.

Pick this game up if you have the chance

Sorry no screen shots my mouse is dead right now so maybe in a while. I have to tab and alt tab to do anything.

Decent review. And a nice bit of info about this title. I'm looking into it myself, thing is, in the UK we haven't got a solid rental service for renting DS games, do you think its worth a purchase?

Id say it is. Its a good title that will get you a couple of weeks of play. Theres nothing special like multiplayer but its still fun.
