Question How do I install firmware?

I'm trying to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi on Mario Kart for the first time ever. I search for opponents in regional and friends. I search and then get no one and I get Error 86420 and then disconnect. Nintendo's website says that I should go to the Linksys website and download firmware. After I download the firmware, it's a BIN file and after that I don't know what else to do. I don't know how to install firmware. Could someone help me? Thanks

There should be a system update somewhere in the menus. It's pretty straight forward from there.

I updated firmware and it still didn't work.

I tried adjusting my port forwarding settings and I went and did it on Livechat with a Linksys technician and I suddenly lost internet and then I reversed that and I got internet back again. Is this normal? I dunno what happened and now I don't know what to do. This is so utterly confusing...

Question

Well after searching for opponents today for Mario Kart DS on Worldwide, I got somebody and then I searched on Regional and got someone there too. I also got someone on Rivals but I rarely ever see connections on Rivals. I still got an Error 86420 after searching for a while on Rivals. Is this normal?

go to 192.168.1.1
Wireless
Advanced Wireless Settings
change Basic Rate to 1-2mbps

setup a static IP on your DS
open all DS ports for that IP in your router

Static IP and openning ports isn't necessary, I just use static IP for the convenience of knowing what IP my DS uses (when at home of course). The basic rate depends on a few things, personally my WRT54G has the Wi-Fi dedicated for DS and wired PC's, I would look for some other way if other PC's used the Wi-Fi on it (they use a D-Link DI-624 which is bridged with the Linksys), but since the DS is the only one using Wi-Fi on the Linksys I have the basic rate enabled and have noticed improved connections.

Aww damn, wish I had some linksys gear, got myself an Asus router and it hasn't been so great.

Maybe I'll get some linksys stuff for my birthday and then shove openwrt on it! :D
