RE: Would you like another Competition?

I'm not sure if I'm going to buy PSP or DS yet...

I'm pretty sure that I'm going to buy DS, but I have to know one thing:

With the GBA Movie Player, will DS play movie in a fair enough quality, or will the PSP offer FAR better quality?

RE: Would you like another Competition?

For best quallity of movies, use Play-yan (GBA Movie Player also does, pics, NES ROMS, and e-books as well as audio and video, Play-yan is purly for audio and video).

The PSP may have better quallity (not to sure) but it's not good if what you want is portable video. You can only watch about 2 hours of video, or listen to about 10:39 hours of mp3.

The PSP requires you to be tethered down to a power source, or drag around a huge battery.
With the DS the play-yan will give you about 5 hours of movies or 20 hours of MP3.

RE: How well does DS play movies?

Ive heard its fairlly good but dont quote me i havent used it first hand. and allso just something to think about the gba video player will prob end up cheaper then the psp ms duo are not cheap :(
-
GBA Movie Player AUD$30 (shipped from us)
SD Card 1gb - AUD$100.00
CF Card 1gb - AUD$119.50
MS Duo 1gb - AUD$192.95
-
that and then you have the sony problems.. there anti-mp3 so there could be some undocumented problems... take for example my minidisk player claimed to play mp3s but after i bought it i had to rencode the files to some propiroty format that can not be downloaded off the unit by any other computer which quite franklly was fruterating... i have 6comuters in my room it would be nice to be able to use my hardware on all of them

i like sony dont get me wrong. Im a proud ps2 owner (ps2 network name "ramninja") but they can be over coutious at times and end up hurting the end user.. if the psp was available and cheaper i would prob have one instead of this ds (which so far i love still needs a real killer app though)

Getting back on topic a good place to check out for these items fairlly cheap ebay(may even get a better price then what ive quoted) would be a start and lik-sang allso provide good service and prices worldwide

They were doing a movie playback test on multiple systems in a mag i got. The DS and the PSP were both there. They said (roughly) that the DS should not be bought if you only want to watch movies on it, The PSP is preety good but you have to ues sonys memory cards to play them (unless you are playing off of ma UMD disc) and they are very expensive. The winner out of the lot was a PDA. The PSP screen cannot compete with the quality a PDA screen puts out (pda has a higher resolution) and its more flexible. The only prob with it is that it can be tricky to set up (i think). If you are a movie buff then id go for a top of the range PDA or a PSP. If an interesting games machine is your target and you just want to see the odd movie then id go for a DS. Also compare prices.
Thats my 2 cents

The catch-22 with the PSP is while you have the power to playback top quality video, the question is do you have deep enough pockets to do it? With a 1gig Memory stick costing well over 200 dollars after taxes, you could have bought a DS, or nearly another PSP.

Because the PSP's storage medium is so expensive, the MOST the average person will do is watch a movie on UMD. This begs another question, why pay 20 bux for a movie you can only watch on your PSP? Wouldn't it be more worth your money to buy a real DVD to watch on your TV, and downscale it to your portable later?

So, which system is better for video playback?

The PSP, no questions asked.

Which system is better for playing back your own video?

The Nintendo DS.

Why the DS? Because the most important factor, the storage medium you'll be transporting these movies on, is CHEAP in comparison to a Sony Memorystick, and come in two flavors, CompactFlash and SecureDigital.

But how do you who have tested it say about it?

Is it fair enough quality to watch LOST on school? :D
