The touch screen contains layers of FE to smoothen and create that shiny texture - and when you press down on the pag, that metal is needed to send electric signals to the CPU. Even call Nintendo, they'll even tell you.

Plastic is able to be shiny without using other substances, I've just finished doing 4 years working with plastics and metals.
