Question This is a stupid question but do you need a cable modem for a wireless router?

I just moved a week ago and I wanna play online with my DS. I now got DSL and got a Wireless-G Linksys WRT54G and instructions say for me to put the disc in first. So when I do put the disc in, the instructions say that I need a cable modem? I'm confused...

As long as the modem has an Ethernet port, it should work with the router.

Maybe try T3 or OC-192. Or you could keep a few grand and stay with DSL and find a router that supports the network connection that your modem uses if it doesn't use Ethernet (which WRT54G uses).

I have one ethernet cable and it came with the router. I think I'll need to buy another one now since the one were using is connected for DSL right?

If there's no option for DSL, just tell it cable, or if you have the option, LAN since you're hooked up to a router instead of directly to the modem. It's no big deal what you tell it as long as you connected everything right and configured the router, it only tells the software what kind of speed it should be getting so the software can properly throttle bandwidth usage or use a good codec (as for audio/video communications) that gives you the best quality without choking available bandwidth.
