will the play-yan play movies in GBA mode?

Crappy? No.
As good as PSP? Also No.

Keep in mind that the play-yan has built in hardware to handle audio / video.

That said, even the cheaper Movie Player advance (http://www.movieadvance.com/) ($25 US)
which uses the GBA's existing hardware, is decent. (review: http://www.engadget.com/entry/2598485627337141/ )

the Play-Yan quality is way better than the Movie Player Advance(from what my friend tells me)

plus its made by nintendo, so you know its gonna be good.

It would be really cool if you could play music in the GBA mode while playing a game in DS mode.

the music from the game would clash with the other music...and wouldnt you rather listen to whats happening?

most of my gba games were played with the music off as it was crap so would be cool if you could turn the game music off and listen too your own well playing.

I just ordered the Movie Advanced (it's fairly cheap, and should be easy enough to resell should I not like it).

I will point out that a DS version is suposed to be in development, and from what i read at Engadget we might have a North American Play-yan the same time we get the GB Micro.

So my sugestion would be to pick up a movie player advanced (and sell it in the fall) or just go with out a movie player for the summer, because Movie advanced DS, and NA Play-yan will linkly be better choices then the JPN play-yan.
