Question How come I'm able to Wi-Fi connect with some people and not with others?

I have a friend that I try to connect to and I get an Error Code 86420 on Animal Crossing. I dunno why this is...everytime I try connecting with my certain friend on ACWW it's always 86420. Even on Mario Kart DS we can't connect. Is there a reason for this and a way to fix it or no?

did you set up static IP on your DS, open all ports and put it to that IP, and put your router down to 1-2mbps?

Question

How do I set up a static IP on my DS? I saw your other topic, but I didn't see anything about setting the static IP up on the DS.

As I said in the other thread, static IP and opening ports shouldn't be necessary, unless you have a really strict router configuration or a game that uses uncommon incoming ports (no DS games do that as far as I know). Check the basic rate and be sure your friend does the same. If you want to be sure, you can open DMZ to the IP of your DS, and you don't need static IP since it's a temporary test, as long as you know how to find the current IP, and have your friend do the same for that as well. If none of that helps, it's probably a deeper problem that would require a more direct form of communication for me to help weed through the various possibilities.

Question

The technician tonight has told me to change the static IP address on my DS for DMZ. Anyone know how I can set a static IP to my Nintendo DS on Animal Crossing: Wild World? I read the booklet and it tells me that Copper is suppose to give me the option of checking my connection settings, but I don't see it after I get onto Nintendo WFC. Someone help?

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. Pick "Other Things" at the title screen of the game and it's in there. I dunno how that typo made it into the booklet.

Manaully configure the connection setting that you have on your DS for your router, disable "Auto-obtain IP Address", put in the IP (192.168.1.***, where *** is anywhere between 2 and 254 and not already used by another PC), put in 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask, 192.168.1.1 for the gateway, and you need to put in the primary and secondary DNS which you can find in the router status page labeled DNS 1 and DNS 2. Test it and save, then go into the router, "Applications & Gaming", DMZ, enable, put in the last 1-3 digits of the IP you set on your DS, save settings, and test in a real gaming situation (where you keep having the problems).
