When you get a DS everyone knows that it has built in WiFi so if you have a wireless router for your computers you can play online games

there are also hotspots and you can also walk by houses with routers to connect

but i heard that you can take LAN games and Pictochat online with special tips you get from websites

pictochatting with the world, how fun....!

Getting non online games online is called tunneling. Check out www.teamxlink.co.uk for details ( its not done yet). But yes when the games are officially online you will be able to connect to wireless hubs and play online. An important thing to remember is that most public wireless spots are now password protected, you must pay to access them.

whod u hear this from ur friends ? lol nobody really knows anything about the ds online stuff yet but appearently (rumor) that nintendo is going to make a big announcement when the psp come to america. probaly has to do with online. at the moment tho there are various projects going on to try and tunnel the ds. http://www.teamxlink.co.uk is one of the many. they are probaly going to be the first to do it

But it will not be possible im afraid. Officilas are saying that you should NOT buy any equipment e.g. a router which is suggesting that available routers as of now, will not work.

I think they mean not to buy any hardware if you want to tunnel your DS because it's still possible that they'd change hardware support between then and the release. I heard that they started working on a USB WiFi stick on Linux, not sure when that will be available but it seems to be just as successful.

Chuddy you do have a point though mate. With Nintendos rep about online add ons and the fact the DS doesnt use standard wireless protocol i think its likely we either see a GBA cart or a wireless access device from nintendo for online play.

Well i do hope so and they should announce it in the next year, Nintendo then would gain so much cred for doing this. And by letting us all know that the DS is online enabled then not saying how we actually get it online is frustrating.
