Hi guys, its great that we are now affiliated with TheWon and his MKart website. My exams are just about finished and I should be able to get back into posting on the forums and posting news.
Iv'e been talking to the mods and admins about a possible wifi subsite for TDS. Here is a more in depth look into how i want this wifi site to be like. Opinions welcome.

A sub domain, maybe wifi.touchds.com. That main page can somewhat look like a blog, something maybe along the lines of this (just a random blog i found http://wishingiknew.blog.com/ ) The main idea is a blog news system similar to what we have now, where admins and mods and people who are taking care of wifi events can post news. And then of course links can go on the side - whatever. And we can have a forum which will just be a sub forum off this TDS one. Well we have that now - and its great, we just have to work on it. No biggy.

That seems simple enough - but with our newly affiliated friend TheWon we can do a lot of cool things. In the following example ill use Mario Kart DS as the game example.

Its 2006 and 'season 1' of the MKDS comp. As a player, i come to the wifi TDS site, where i can have easy access to the ladder information, and all misc info. TDS in my opinion 'should' be 1 main league in which there are clans and such within it. (Personal clans etc) Throughout the year we as a league will have matches against each other etc and everynow and then we can have a game versing our affiliates, TheWon's website, etc. a 'league war' type thing or a big event. We have to work out how we can keep a ladder/ranking system going, and a database for all the clans.
I personally think groupings are much better. We have many members from different places in TDS, many of which are inactive but im certain will become active when WiFi games come out and we have a wifi section.

So we have people from different countries etc. Why dont we group the countries or areas? Such as, an idea im working on and Im actually going through with this - im going to make something similar to a "Oceanic Nintendo Gaming League" - a subset from TDS's wifi section. The ONGL will be home to all the players and players who are in clans from australia and this same part of the world. I think this is a good method.

Its easy to navigate with. For example, a new person comes to the tds forums, is interested in the wifi events so enters the wifi sub forum. From that page h/she will select which part of the world he/she is in (such as Oceanic will go to my one) and from there will be all the relavent news and information about the events going on in that part of the world. In other words the person will only find information most relavent to him/her. Of course there should also be a global area, for those who want to play with other friends or clans that are elsewhere. But this idea is mainly for clans.

Having this syetm also solves most of the Time Zones problems - but of course does not solve everything.

Please let me know how you guys think. You should find a advert poster on a forum thread recruiting clans for my Oceanic area within the next month.

I don't see why... Shouldn't the tournament host site be dealing with the rankings and postings?

Aye, personally, I think we shoiuld have mini-groups. The US has about twelve members who'd be willing to join a clan, I bet, so why not three teams of four or something? And we could have a British team, Rechargd, Pancakes, Darkmatter and one or two others could make an Australian team...

I recall someone saying something similar a long time ago, but it simply doesn't make sense. A touchds clan would be fine. We can have tournaments within the clan as well, not a big deal. Heck, we might even organize that each clan has tournaments to decide their absolute best player at a certain game, then each clan's best goes in representing them. That would be a sweet tournament.

Yeah it would be one sweet tournement... if you were 'the best', that is.

I honestly think the time-zones could be the problem between regularly games. If we had British people who could go against British based websites, and Americans on Americans, it wouldn't be a problem (most of the time). Since (I hope) most members have a life, tying ourselves down to play that one-hour session with Brits may not be easy at all.

I understand your point, but what about this point:
A lot of DS gamers are outside and not on forums such as this. Euan,

Thats a good idea, its much like my country groupings method. Lets take a look at the bigger picture - with me as an example. Im a member here, ive got at the moment 3 friends not on these forums who have a DS and will get MK. We are going to form a clan. After we form the clan the guys will have to join these forums to compete in anything around here. I want to hear from TheWon, but I dont think i am mistaken if I say that there are only about 8 people on a MK clan - not an entire forum's worth of people! Having said that, most people really prefer their own clans. So if we go with some of your guy's idea of just the one clan that battles each other throughout the year, then why not simple change that a bit by making it internal clan matches? It really is just the same thing.

If we want to make it more interesting, if it is time to compete with other sites, we could have a 'showdown' comp, where clans fight internally and the best one will represent TDS.

We at TDS should have a page for records, as will our other affiliate sites. And maybe elsewhere later on there can be another site/database that has global record information.

Again, having region groupings will make time zone management much much easier. Becuase most the time you will be either practising with your own clan or practising with other clans. It wouldnt be hard to do in the system, becuase in every Regional forum there will be a stick post outlining all the timezone conversions etc.

Lets make this poll an official one.

Agree. Since we've got the block party idea, we don't need to join each other in clans. We can play each other at the block parties (and organise online games at other times), but for clans, I'd say small groupings, preferably in the same timezone (just ask Pilot how hard it has been organising a podcast with different timezones) and it would work brilliantly.

A ladder would also be great.
