Problems connecting to WiFi
Apologies if this has already been asked but since I can't find a solution elsewhere I thought it best to post a new thread.
I ordered a DSLite for myself which has still yet to be delivered, but I am having trouble connecting my brothers DS to wifi via our router and I want to try and find the problem so I am not having the same problem with my DSL. The DS does not find any access points whatsoever, and when I try to set up a connection manually I get a message saying that the WEP key is invalid even though I am using it on my laptop. I can get to the router settings on my mums computer, but I don't want to have to open the connection so that anybody in the area can connect to and use our wireless without us being aware of this. If anybody has any information that will help then please let me know, thanks. |

Yes, I'm on Windows (we don't use Mac's) and the router works fine.
I think what I failed to realise in the first place is that the router settings (as default) are set to WPA or something? I'm going to get my mum to log onto the admin account tomorrow so that I can change it to WEP. When I do this, do I have to make a new WEP code or will there be a preset one? Also, is it possible to make the connection secure so that nobody can connect our wireless without us being aware? Thanks |

The DS only works with WEP encryption, not WPA. Changing it to WEP should fix your problem.
You will need to create another key when you change it to WEP, and the DS only uses the first of the four WEP keys. Don't listen to Arthur, he apparently doesn't know what a router is. It seems he thinks the DS Wifi USB adapter is a router. Routers aren't dependent on the operating system you use and you don't need to use a CD to get a router working correctly. |

If you switch it to WEP, ordinary people won't be able to access your network, but more advanced users with packet sniffers and such can. The chances of someone hacking through it are quite unlikely, depending on how popular the area a few hundred feet around the router is.
You can get either the Nintendo USB connector or just about any other USB Wi-Fi adapter. You're still wrong Arthur, a router doesn't go into a computer. Wraith, for the sake of argument I think it's more likely that you have a misconfigured router than an incompatible router. |
