Hey guys, hope you all had a great X-mas.

I know alot of you want to know about the DS going online, so I have put together a couple of reasons as to why we are so certain that Nintendo will be launching an online service for the DS next year - reasons that prove Nintendo have the intention to do this.

1. PictoChat has room for 64 people at once! (4 x 16)
Surely you wont 64 people all within 100ft of each other. Either this signals Nintendo gamers have too many friends or Nintendo have the intention of taking Pictochat online ....

2. A headset port....
The port on the front of the DS (right of GBA slot) is for a headset such like those seen on Xbox live for SOCOM or such like games. Surely if Nintendo release such an item, their intention will be to implement it into an online Advance wars? After all if it were just for 100yd multiplayer it wouldn't be worth it...

3. Nintendo announced they have a secret release in March
This apparently is to draw people to the DS when the PSP is launched in UK and US - it is also when the DS is launched in the UK. We firmly believe that news of online DS (and at the very least only news!) will be release then... and its exciting.

Will any of this turn out to be true? I certainly hope and believe so, but I guess only time will tell.

Watch this space... or this site to be more specific.

Cheers guys,
Dave

Animal Crossing DS

Those are all excellent points. It does make you think. I mean, what else could this "secret" release be? That, alone, makes me believe that the DS is going online.

RE: ds detecting other ds

One thing I'd like to point out with PictoChat... While 64 is certainly of the online numbers, it's still possible to get 64 people within a 100ft radius (think DS LAN party). Also, Nintendo probably designed PictoChat to support the max of 16 people in a room for a large group, and gave it 4 seperate rooms incase there's more than one group that wants to chat alone. I'm not sure how Nintendo will put PictoChat online without a firmware update or something like what Xlink is doing.

Ahh the headset port... I've always been into online gaming since I first started in 1999, and not long after that I got into voice chat and have been going strong since, with my own TeamSpeak server and all. I just wonder why all the hype is on voice recognition rather than the more widely used and enjoyed voice chat.

I expect the big announcement will include online capabilities with games like Animal Crossing and hopefully even Metroid Prime: Hunters, and it'll probably include more than we're expecting since the announcement was announced so early. Firmware updates go as my second most wanted DS improvement after online.

I'd love to see Animal Crossing DS online. I'm getting it anyway, but if it was online, it'd be that much sweeter.

Nintendo already said that Animal Crossing DS will be online, don't worry. I believe it was said in an interview or something.

Re: RE: Reasons why Nintendo WILL be taking the DS online

Although I would love to believe the Nintendo announcement in March will be on the DS' connectivity, but I honestly don't see that as such a groundbreaking announcement if the PSP can already do that very same thing by default right out of the box.

Rather, I believe the announcement will be for the obvious... What exactly Ninty plans on using GBA carts as for the DS. Ever notice the extra holder for a GBA cart in all of your DS boxes? It's easily interpreted that some games will come with their own GBA cartridge to add additional functionality to the DS.

This most obvious of speculations has yet to be addressed until now.

That GBA cart holder on the DS cases is probably there for convenience to gamers and developers. Nintendo knows that it's possible developers could create games that come with an additional GBA cart for expanded capability, so they added the holder so they won't need to bother with it later on or require 2 types of cases, it's also handy for gamers when the developers don't use it. I have doubts that Nintendo (let alone any other company) currently has their own plans to use it for anything new and interesting, but we won't know until they give their announcement.
