yeah i got the update working finally. the huge problem was, i never installed punkbuster from the CD. i booted the CD, and installed it, works great now =)

There's a few awesome mods for BF1942 you should get. Actually, two that are still played online. Galactic Conquest (a star wars mod, which beats Battlefront in some respects), and Desert Combat (a modern mod that plays a lot more like BF2). The DC guys were hired by EA, and you can really see their influence on BF2 from DC.

Actually I asked one of the EA guys about that in an Xfire event and he said they weren't really involved in the development of BF2.

I sorta think of EA as the Sony of games, they're all about the money and they buy the companies that especially pose a threat to their sales. It's old news that they don't have a care in the world for most of their employees (why the BF1942 team was fired), and the main reason why they bought Trauma Studios I'm not sure but I bet they'd get fired soon once EA stops supporting BF2.

i could never get '42 online to work properly downloaded the patches and mods & all that but it still just wouldn't work.

edit: well ok it works with some servers... but not with others. i have no idea what is going on =P

Make sure you have Punkbuster installed and enabled in BF1942, also make sure you have the latest patch of coarse (1.61b), and you'd only be able to join a few modified servers if it's not the retail copy.

when was the last time EA released a patch for this game? Oh yes, run your BF1942 CD, and make sure Punkbuster IS installed, cause I didn't install it and that was my problem =3

It depends on the version of the CD, I think Punkbuster was introduced somewhere around version 1.4. Mine is 1.0, so in my case I need to install it from the patch installer. Just to be clear, after you install Punkbuster you need to enable it at the bottom left of the server browser to be able to join Punkbuster enabled servers (which is most of them), when it was first added to BF1942 I didn't notice it and quickly found out when I was getting Punkbuster errors when I tried joining servers.
