Lkr: Listen carefully. You are spoiled. You are rich. Very few people have the money and/or motivation to get an 8800, unless they themselves are fairly well off in monetary terms, and quite avid gamers. When you take the very top-of-the-line hardware, and call it "budget priced", what you are doing is known as being a rich asshole. The kid with the best toy who rubs it in other people's faces like they're silly for not being rich enough to have one.

Yes, what ^ said. And I hope your 8800 burns out playing Crysis on high settings!

8800gt is $200. thats cheaper than a Wii and provides 100x as good visuals. How is that "extremely pricey"?

Tell me this, who here with an 8800GT actually paid for it with their own money and not with the help of parents? I sort of doubt Lkr or Wraith qualify.

I have a 512MB 7600GS that I bought in February (it was the best budget card at the time) and I can run Crysis with most of the settings at high. I forget what I had CoD4 set at, but I think it was about the same, most settings at high. The key is to figure out which settings impact performance the most and adjust accordingly.

The absolute lowest price for the 8800 I can find is $266, and most are over $300, usually more in most places I've looked. You don't even know how much favorite bit of hardware costs.

And how is $300 extremely pricey for a single piece of hardware? Just stop talking lkr.

Um... Who in their right mind would buy the 256 MB version if they're going that hardcore? I just did a quick Froogle search.

8800GT - Google Product Search

I always check Newegg for prices before checking anywhere else because I know Newegg would have prices among the lowest. Only eBay could substantially beat those prices, but there's a lack of speed and quality associated with eBay bargains.

I agree with the memory size, 256MB is too low for a top-of-the-line video card. I try not to reduce any of my specs when I upgrade, so chances are I'll have at least 512MB when I upgrade my card in a year or two. I bet 768MB or 1GB would be reasonably priced by then.

256mb is just fine if you play on low resolutions. I'm getting over 110 FPS on CoD4 maxed out with aa x4. not to mention my CPU bottlenecks the performance :|

Resolution doesn't have much to do with video memory. Most of the memory goes to textures, and the texture size is independent of of the screen resolution. Also not having enough video memory doesn't necessarily give you a low frame rate. It's more about visual processing such as effects, filtering, shaders, and screen resolution.

By the way, what resolution are you playing at? I find it hard to believe you're getting average 110FPS with everything max in CoD4 with a resolution any higher than about 1024x768 or 1280x960 and a CPU that's bottlenecking performance. What CPU do you have anyway and are you spoiled enough to overclock without worry? Heck, you might as well get it over with and tell us all your specs and who bought each part. I despise people who brag about things their parents bought them and act like they're superior to everyone else for owning it.
