Sepharite is an unknown quantity at this point
I would have liked "PS3 Details Revealed Yesterday" but that's also fine. =(

In the new system I don't think I can change the title anyway.

I'm telling you, they have a whole team that does the translating very carefully for these games. Ever played a badly translated game? It hurts doesn't it.

Yeah, translating is harder on companies than you probably think, especially for games with lots of words like RPG's.

I don't think you guys are thinking in relative terms though. That part compared to the rest of the design process is cheap, easy, and quick. Again, relatively.

Honestly, I think they'd do that more often. That little work to introduce a game to an entirely new market? Rarely would the sales not make up for it...

Do you know two languages? Think about a text heavy RPG. It would take some seriously fluent people in both languages to do it properly.

So? One or two translators? Hell, it takes a couple hours for a group of fans to sub Naruto episodes for free. That's a good half an hour of content. And they do it every week for no pay. And your going to tell me developers couldn't get a couple guys to do some translations for a game for some solid pay? I don't buy it. Judging by the work I've seen done by fans in the realm of translations, I don't think getting professionals to do some honest work should be any problem.

Of course, I admit it's very different depending on the game. For instance, the difference between an RPG and a fighting game would be huge, since all you really need to do for the fighter is menus and some little stuff, while you have to do the whole giant story for the RPG. Still, I don't think it would be difficult in any case in all reality.

Maybe a 3rd party should be established just for doing translations of games...actually, I think that's a really good idea...I'm going to establish a 3rd-party game translation company! Off to Japanese class...

In agreeance w/ShadowMarth:

Yeah, it's not like Nintendo who has localization teams in all regions. They'd either have to hire translators from the start (money money money) or hire a translator when they want to localize the game (again, money and more time). A text-heavy RPG would literally kill a small development team in terms of financials. And what if the game doesn't sell well? I mean, you can only have so many Katamari Damacy's.

Well, of course you really can't force it because of situations like that, but there really needs to be an initiative for this kind of thing. And I still think you all are WAYYYYYY overestimating non-voice translation costs...
