PS3 impressions

My household recieved a PS3 recently, the main reason being my Dad wanted a blu-ray player to accompany the new 50 inch. It was a ***** trying to secure a 60gig since they're stamping them out here in prep for the 80s to be released in March, but we found one, but came in a package with Resistance, Ridge Racer and Smackdown.

Resistance is better than i thought it'd be, but not bad for a free game. Ridge Racer 7 is actually one of the better itterations of the series I've played in some time, and the online focus in it is quite cool.

Smackdown, *sigh*, i use to quite like this series before they started putting dates in the title, shouldve kept it to cheesey slogans. I took this in to for a part exchange on Uncharted. This is seriously one of the best games I've played all year, and its Naughty Dog delivering again. It succeeds in all areas, and makes for a genuinely pleasing package.

In terms of the actual hardware, I'm quite impressed, the XMB is intuitive and quite accessible as an OS. The DVD upscaling is of great quality, having tried Revenge of the Sith on it. Blu-Ray quality is also great, and im noticing better colour definition on it than even the Samsung.

The Playstation Network is the biggest pleasant surprise for me. It simple to use, and ultimately delivers... not bad for a free service. The Playstation store on the other hand, while having a decent selection of full games to download, can be improved in the field of media and demo's. Updates are supposed to happen every Thursday, but it can feel far and in between. But in conclusion, I'm content with the Playstation Network, and it's come at a great time for me, with the introduction of the 40gig, I've seen a lot of family and friends purchasing PS3s to accompany their Wii's which they bought last year, so I've got a nice selection of people to play online with.

So yeah, before I'm off to download Tekken DR online, a big shout out to Uncharted, I'm seriously loving this game.

Yeah, I've played Uncharted. I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10.
It lost .5 because the gameplay wasn't new. just refined.
I kinda was expectign something new.

Had to pass up on the PS3 this X-mas, but I'd like to get one soon. From what I've heard and observed, Uncharted is quite the gem.

I'll be sure to check out Uncharted's reviews. PS3 is gonna stay on my boredom list, just created one, until games that are actually interesting are released.

the main reason I have a 360 over a PS3 is because it fits in my Home theater set up better. I'm able to stream TV with my HD tuner on my PC to my 360. Then I can watch it on the 360 in another room on the big HDTV. you can store the data on PS3, but I don't believe you can stream it. And yeah, upscaled DVDs are nice aren't they? When I got my 360, I watched LoTR to see if it did upscale, and I said holy ish, cause it looked nicer than the movie already did look.
