Slashdot

"Well, it has begun. Sony announced that the PlayStation 3 will no longer act as a home network router. How long before more news trickles in about the downgrading of other features?" From the GI.biz article: "Whether that means the bank of network ports on the back of the box has actually been reduced to a single port is not clear, however, as the company has previously hinted that it has other plans in mind for the multiple network ports."

This was to be expected. They're pushing such an expensive console against it's much less expensive competitors, it was bound to start some time.

The Cell Processor? j/k :P
BTW Popular Science had a whole page with pics and all of the Cell Processor, they said it has 9 cores (meaning 18 calculations at once) versus the 2 cores that AMD and Intel recently released which are around $500. It's gotta be the most expensive hardware in the whole system if that's the case.
Unfortunately I can't find it on their site.

RE: Animal Crossing To Be Released in July???

Well, it's possible all the processing usually done on a separate processor (video, audio, etc.) will be done on the Cell, which would use up maybe 3 of the cores, so I see where you're going with the games only using 6. But, with a closer look, they say part of the dye "moves data from the processor to external chips (including, in the case of PS3, Nvidia's graphics processor)", although it does say a portion of the dye is from audio encoding.
I didn't see your post, but from the way you said it I think you're joking around cause not many people (especially here) are stupid enough to think a single person agreeing with what they say means they're right. Popular Science has pictures of both the outside and inside (the dye) of the Cell, with details about what 5 areas of the dye are and do, so I think they know more about the Cell than you.
The speeds are way up, accesses memory at 25.6GBytes/sec and 76.8GBytes/sec between the Cell and external chips, and the not so unusually high speed everyone probably knows already of 3.2GHz.
