RE: What makes a great gamer?
being a good gamer i think probably requires one main thing... and thats a lot of free time =P. I got some of that myself so i of course play. Going back to the RPG thing, of course no cheats or walkthroughs allowed ever for me, and being a good rpg gamer means ur able to get everything and beat the game real quickly with no help at all. Heh last rpg i did like that was tales of symphonia, was pretty easy and i got pretty much everything. Also, talking about zelda games.... they are not hard watsoever, just puzzling through the dungeons. If u noticed, in almost all zelda games the "outside" world is always easy difficult wise to get around, and its the dungeuons that create problems for people. I personally never had that problem but w/e =P. If u havent noticed yet im a big rpg gamer, and im currently really into MMORPGs (everquest 2....need i say more?). Acually, i only play 2 games right now, and pretty much dont play anthign else at all. These games being EQ2 and DDR. Id have to say in my experiences..... most people who are big gamers play that game. Its probably just a steriotype, but every1 i know whos a big gamer plays it, and its like the better gamer they are, the better they are at that game (i guess that must mean im good but not that good considering i cant beat LoM heavy yet, while i have friends who can beat it with an A =/) So thats basically my personal opinion on gamers: must have a good amount of free time, dedication to each game all teh way through with speed and accuracy, and no cheating whatsoever

RE: New Box Art
I don't use walkthroughs or cheats. Didn't use them back in the days of the NES and SNES, don't use them now. Of course, most games these days are ridiculously easy. I've always loved the Zelda games because of their dungeons. They were actually a bit more challenging than everything else (except Wind Waker). I don't play very many RPGs, which is why I don't use walkthroughs. The only games that I have ever "cheated" on were, of course, the GTA series. But even then, I wasn't actually playing any of the missions.
To me, using walkthroughs and/or cheats really defeats the self-satisfaction that you are able to obtain upon completion of the game. It feels good to know that you completed a game without any outside help. I may not be the best gamer, but I know how to play games. Some games are easy, some are hard. The hard ones provided a challenge for a reason, so you can think through situations. If you are using walkthroughs, you are letting someone else do the work for you, which I don't really like. That's just me, however. I guess the things that make a great gamer are things that are both learned, and natural skill. |
