Your whole PC stopped responding because your internet connection is slow? That's unusual, maybe it's not necessarily your internet connection causing that. The rotation thing sounds like some sort of a hotkey thing that you triggered, although I wouldn't expect the keyboard to even be capable of doing anything to the monitor configuration unless it's a laptop.

That was the worst thing you could do, especially when you figured it wasn't bad and you could've properly shut it down while it was rotated. If you absolutely need to shut it down improperly, like when it completely locks up, just hold the power button for 4 seconds (for most PC's). Shutting down improperly could cause data corruption, so don't shut down improperly unless it's your only option, and sometimes you need to be patient to find out for sure if it's your only option.
