Get an R4 and a microSD card, you can get the whole bundle for about $60. You need to buy online because stores won't carry that kind of stuff since it's popular for piracy. I find Sky2k.com to have some of the best prices for R4 (that's where I got mine), but you might want to look elsewhere for the microSD since 1GB is about $10 and 2GB about $20 on Newegg.
If you want to play GBA homebrew, you'll need to get a GBA flash cart (which you can use along with the R4), but I've been fine just sticking with DS homebrew. |

Wait so what the big difference between ds and gba homebrew. Also what does R4 mean and does the site mail it to you?

DS has 2 screens and a touch screen and microphone and wi-fi and full 3D, GBA doesn't. Many homebrew programs take full advantage of the hardware they're made for.
There's a drawing program called Colors (made by a professional game developer) that can actually sense how hard you're pressing on the screen; I bet you didn't know the DS could do that. Another popular program called Moonshell can sense the temperature; I bet you didn't know the DS could do that either. R4, or R4DS, stands for Revolution for DS. The site you order from would ship it to you after you pay for it, otherwise you'd be getting ripped off. If you want to be safe, order from a site that you've researched and make sure they have a good reputation. Personally I think Sky2k has the cheapest prices with a trustable reputation, since I got mine from them incredibly cheap and couldn't find it anywhere else for cheaper. Hay i have a question what about roms are people aloud to use those for the Ds? Have you ever gotten roms and are they any good and do they work just fine? I also ordered the R4. But can you play nintendo 64 roms on it? or do you need something special. Same with the GBA

No you can't run N64 roms on a DS for the hardware isnt the same. (its much worse)
Also, no. people arent aloud to play DS games on r4/TTDS(Which im using). But most of the time it is used solely for that purpose. And Pilot I have a question. How do you actually put homebrew on your R4? Cause I can't find any tutorials for TTDS and i need to know.

I put the microSD card into the USB adapter and move the files onto it kind of like a floppy drive or flash stick.
Once the adapter is plugged in, you see it in My Computer and it stays there whether there is a microSD in it or not. Like a floppy disk, you can remove the microSD without safely removing the hardware, just be sure nothing is writing to it when you do or you might end up with some corrupted files. To be safe, before I remove it I close all windows that access it and wait a few seconds after the last write. The NDS file can go anywhere, but for other files that the NDS file depends on you often need to place them in the root or some other directory which would usually be mentioned in the readme. If you're still stumped and you're sure the TTDS works the same way, contact me on Xfire and I'll walk you through it. |
