Largest part of the entertainment industry? More so than Film? or Music? I heard that the games industry is now grossing more than then film industry, said that to my dad and he was having none of it, not because hes against games, far from it, but just found it unbelievable when compared to what a single movie may gross; i want conclusive evidence to show him.
But anyway, to what's at hand; damn he's getting old.

I wouldn't say he's responsible for the "current state" either.
The "current state" is everyone buys stuff with crazy good graphics and is rated M. Oh, and most people live for online gaming. Shiggy's not big on either of those.

Seriously. The NES is largely responsible for saving video games from the historic crash, and Shiggy is largely responsible for the success of the NES. He made all the games that sold the console early on, and continued to drive the sales of it throughout... well, the last 20 years. He has been behind several of the most successful video games in history. To say his impact on the industry has been negligible is to be a ****ing dumbass. Who knows how long it might have taken for some console or company to gain the popularity to resurrect the failing industry, or what form it would have taken.
As for the figures biggy, you may be right there. I did a quick search, and came up with this from 2004. Quote:

I never said he didn't have a huge impact, man. Chill with the attacks.
He did revive the industry when it looked like death was imminent, yes. He made quite a few games that revolutionized how games were made. I'm just saying the current state of the industry is not entirely shiggy's work. Other people have had some creative ideas too. He's had a huge impact, but he's not entirely responsible for video games as they are today.
