RE: Is it Possible?

Before I begin let me say that I am way more then expert in Windows environment. I am kind of new to Linux. I understend how it works and stuff but i dont know my way around it. I got Knoppix to boot of the CD for my laptop. The problem that I'm having is that for some kind of reason the consol is running in 1280x768 (the correct resolution) but Desktop Environment is running 1024x768 and it wont let me change it to the right one.
How do i override this?

All over the place. First you have to know what distribution u want. If you have never tried Linux before I recommend Knoppix because you can boot it off the CD and its hard to break something. If you want to go all the way I like Fedora Core (I know bunch of ppl will argue on this one, I just like it a lot). In order to run linux you will need to repartition your hd because you need a boot and swap partition additionaly. And when you want to run both systems you will need at least 4 partitions. Getting it to work is a pain though.

And seriously, stay the freak away from Red Hat. It used to be alright and use KDE, but now AOL has bought stock in it. Run fast, run far.

Also, if you're new, and you can spare $40, scope out "The Complete Refrence" series, the Linux book. Insanely massive tome of knowledge cheap.
