I just got my new video card, but it seems to be troubling my computer. Anyway, since I'll be dependant on our older computer for a while, I won't be on as much. If you think you might be able to help I'll tell my plight.

I got my new ATI Radeon 9250 PCI 256mb graphics card for my Dimension 3000 dell with 512mb of RAM and a 3.2 ghz proccessor. It's original graphics card was a 64mb integrated card... Ugh. Anyway, I followed the instructions in the booklet, and I begun by uninstalling my old graphics drivers. I installed my new video card, and that went smoothly as well. I plugged in and brought up my newly-updated computer and all was well. Though the display settings were reset, that was to be expected. I commenced to installing the drivers for my new card using the driver disk that came with it, and all seemed to go well once more. I got to the end of the installation, and it prompted me to restart my computer. I did so. Here's where the problem occurs. When I attempt to start my computer, it will begin fine, bringing up the normal windows loading screen, but after that it will promptly shut off the monitor and not allow me to turn it back on. It sucks very much. Luckily I know enough hotkeys to shut it down without a monitor...

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Boot into safe mode and uninstall the drivers, then boot normally and download and install the latest drivers from ATI. If that doesn't do the trick you probably have a compatibility issue and should probably get a different video card.

RE: offical appology for the adult thread

If you have integrated graphics the new graphics card will conflict with it. So you have to disable the integrated graphics. To do this go into the device manager. Find your integrated graphics and disable it.

I didn't think integrated graphics would cause that problem especially once the drivers are installed, but I've never had integrated graphics so I don't know so much about it. It's likely a cause if you have integrated graphics, I suggest disabling it from the BIOS (it should say what key to press during boot to get into the BIOS, although some manufactured PC's such as Dell or Gateway might not).

I had a similar problem (with the same video card... O.o). I suggest what Pilot_51 has suggested, and disable it within the BIOS. That gives you a better chance of better compatibility.

RE: TTTTTHHHHAAANNNKKKSSS!

boot in safe mode, and install new drivers like pilot_51 said. if that doesnt work, it probly is the integrated, cause Dell claims you cannot replace them

RE: TTTTTHHHHAAANNNKKKSSS!

Thanks for your suggestions. We're in the process of attempting to fix it. Probably the drivers at the moment. We can boot in vga mode, but oddly the mouse does not work. It is an optical mouse, so I can tell that it is working. Guess I'll be out of action for a while.
