Gamecube to be various-priced in Japan
In Japan, the gamecube will no longer have a MSRP. This means that as of October 27th, retailers will be able to sell the Gamecube for whatever price they want. The console currently retails for 14,000 yen. While this may seem like Nintendo's last effort to save the dying system, which has been going downhill for years, Sony has actually made the PS2 open price back in 2002 after a price drop.
I wonder what impact on overseas sales this will make, if any. -Source: Nintelligent
