As ShadowMarth said, NP had a good article (Sept 2006 Vol 207 pgs 58-61). Vol 208 rated it an 8.5 (out of 10) so its a great game. Much better than the Battle Network games. Gameplay is similar to the Zero series.
Here's what NP said: The world is a large world with interconnected areas (think Metroid here) to explore. When you get powerups you can return to previous areas to get more stuff. The first powerup you get is the X model to turn you into Mega Man X (you are a human in this game, either guy or girl, and girl path is harder than guy path). Gameplay takes place on the top screen. Bottom screen for X is a basic map. X gives your character the ability to dash, wall-kick, and charge the arm cannon. Second model is ZX (Zero). You get the Z Saber and the gun (from the Zero series). You can charge either weapon. Bottom screen is still a basic map (I think, it didn't really say). Third model is LX (Leviathan from Zero series). Yes, both the guy and girl can get this model. It allows you to swim, not just run through water like X or Zero did, actually swim like Leviathan did. Weapon is a double-halberd (same weapon Leviathan used), which you can spin 360 under water. You also get ice attacks, and charging the weapon can create ice platforms in the water (like one of the X games, forget which one) to help your other forms get to unreachable places (you can switch forms on the fly). Bottom screen is a radar that shows nearby items. Fourth model is PX (Phantom from Zero series). Less powerful, but still useful. Ground attack is multi-fire shuriken attack, air is 4 shuriken (1 straight ahead, 1 straight down, other two in between) (NP says shuriken, but looks more like kunai in the screenshots they show). Charged attack is spinning star (a true shuriken) that goes out and boomerangs back. PX can cling to ceilings and during Overdrive mode can dash through opponents and hazards (I'm guessing this means dashing through pits, spikes, possibly through walls?). Bottom screen shows hidden passages and enemies. Next is the HX model (Harpuia from Zero series). This form can dash in midair, dash straight up, and has slow-fall (press jump while falling for slow-fall). Attacks are horizontal and vertical sword slash and electric ball attacks (same as Zero series Harpuia had). Bottom screen is a scanner that shows enemy HP and weaknesses (think Scan from FF series). Last is the FZ model (Fenrir from Zero series). He has two large cannons, one on each arm. Bottom screen is used to adjust the firing pattern. This is the only model than can fire straight up. Each arm can fire independantly from the other (one can shoot forward while one shoots up for example). Charge attack is a fire attack, used to melt ice, can also break some blocks. Thats basically all it says, the rest of the article is an interview with the developer. Both guy and girl have different story lines, with girl path being harder, so first time players are cautioned to play the guy first. It is necessary to play as both to get the whole story (or ask someone who has played it already). Dunno when it comes out, NP didn't say. Hope this helps anyone thinking about getting it. I know I will be when it hits a store near me (and I scrounge up enough $$). Last edited by Autocon; 01-09-2006 at 04:36 AM. |

I just found (and bought) this game at Wal-Mart today. I have a little bit of new info to go with what I already posted. It isn't much, but...
MMZX has a bit of a bonus when MMZ3/4 is in the GBA slot. The game becomes more challenging with bosses from MMZ3/4 in random locations within MMZX. I can't test this or tell you anything more about it 'cause I don't have MMZ3/4... There is also an Easy mode in addition to the standard Normal mode. Both modes allow you to choose which character (Vent / guy or Aile / girl) to play as.

Ugh...want some input from someone who's beaten the game? First off, that last pic is not from MMZX...
The game is called ZX because early in the game the Z and X biometals combine (somehow making you worse than when you were just X btw). Some evil guy is trying to revive model W, which for some reason is uber-uber and he's gonna take over the world. There's a bunch more boring storyline there. The gameplay is pretty good, with plenty of annoyances and drawbacks but still overall solid combat. The game takes an hour or two to really get into it. It's very old-school MegaMan with a few welcome twists. There are 5 total transformations (plus one secret), each giving you different powers. From uber dashing skillz, to underwater rapage skillz, to l33t ninja skillz (my favorite), there are some pretty cool powers here. Once you unlock a biometal you can transform into it at any time. If you have MMZ3/4 there's one place in the game you can go to and fight the bosses from those games for fun. There's no bonus for this. Also, after you beat the game, you can find Omega Zero in this one place and fight him (he's five times as uber as the final boss). You can then get his biometal if your on normal (working on that now). ![]() ![]() Model X (you don't keep that for long), Weapon: Uber-Buster Model ZX, Weapon(s): Buster, Sword Model H, Weapon: Sword, Power: Air-Dash Model F, Weapon: Big Buster, Power: Use touch-screen to create a blaster path Model L, Weapon: Lance, Power: Swimming & Underwater Ownge Model P, Weapon: 5 bazillion kunai/shurikens, Power(s): Cling to some railings, Some special dash I can't figure out ![]()

This is more like the Megaman Zero series since all of the bosses are from the Zero series, your powers also come from Bosses from the Zero series. Omega Zero was the final boss in Megaman Zero 3 and he was hard as hell, he is actually the real Zero but he doesn't have Zero REAL soul, thats who you are, a fake Zero with the real Zero's soul. Well anyway, you can only get Omega Zero's biometal on a difficulty level above easy. His abilites just seems stronger versions of Zero's except Omega Zero can do an explosion move, it resembles Zero's move off of Megaman X4..if any of you ever played it, you know what I'm talking about.
...btw, that last pic is from the MMZX anime that is coming out in the near future. |

Quote:
None of the bosses in ZX are even a challenge on Easy Mode, not even Omega. I defeated Omega with PX and he never touched me (I just kept throwing kunai at him, then dashing away, and when he charged up his sword and jumped at me I dashed past him, turned around, and repeated). The final boss seemed harder than Omega. I haven't made it that far on Normal Mode yet, though.
