Well, those big name reviewers occasionally give screwy ratings for stupid reasons, Splinter Cell is a great example (it averaged around 4.0 just for the bad frame rate when using special view modes, but the rest of us mostly gave it a 7+). I'm not saying this isn't crap, I'm just saying don't believe everything reviewers say, get opinions from gamers that play it cause they want to and not because they're paid/forced to. Besides, isn't IGN slightly biased against DS?

Craig is probably the only one on the IGN staff that likes DS, everyone else I've seen there turns out to be biased more or less for PSP. I respect Craig, but I've seen him say some things back in the day that made him look slightly biased against DS. He gave Splinter Cell a 6.0 while the readers and myself give it around 8.0, I'm not sure if it's the way the IGN rating system is or if it's all in what he's looking for in a game, but every review on IGN DS I've seen is either lower than or equal to the reader reviews. IGN is great, particularly for news and media, but when it comes to reviews I strongly lean for people that aren't paid or told to review, especially friends whenever possible.

Yeah but if reader reviews were trusted then it would be a sad, sad day for reviewers. If somebody enjoys a game, say Meteos, even though it does have errors they could quite easily give it a '10'. They can even vote before the game is released anywhere.

True, the point system shouldn't be the only source of opinion, that's why you get somewhat extensive written or talk reviews from them too. I look among the games I have my eye on for reviews that have many good things to say and mention of some of the worst things, and I don't stop at one review, I keep reading reviews until I'm ready to buy, except in the case of huge games like MKDS or ACWW or MPH I already know will be good when I buy on launch day.

Well, I spent quite a bit of time playing Spyro yesterday and I'm enjoying it. :) That's not to say that what that review says isn't true. The points are there in the game but.... they don't ruin it for me, or haven't done so far and I spent a few hours on it. That review sounds like an OTT rant to me now I've started playing.
Take the part about it talking about the same text appearing on the top screen and the bottom screen, yes this is true but it's just a few screens for the story at the start of the game, after that it's gone and forgotten. Not enough for me to make a big deal out of it anyway. I mean this might not be the game for all but I'm just relieved as I'd been looking forward to this one and that review dampened my spirits but I'm happy again as I'm having fun so far. Each to their own eh? But then I do like dragons, the colour purple ( ), fantasy and magical things, RPGs etc.
