Faulty Wrist-straps

Here is the article from IGN

Personally I think people need to learn how to hold onto a damn remote.

"Nintendo to Probe Strapgate
The company looks into possible causes of Wii-related accidents
by Micah Seff

December 7, 2006 - Finally, an official response to countless reports of accidents involving jubilant gamers' loose grip on the Wii's remote controller has come out of Nintendo. During a recent meeting with the Foreign Correspondents Club of Japan, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata vowed to launch an investigation into the possibility of faulty wrist straps.

Some consumers who have received the brunt of these accidents have claimed that the wrist strap which is included with the controller works itself loose. As a result, the controller has been known to slip out of gamers' hands and cause damage.

However, according to Iwata this is not necessarily due to a flaw in the design. More likely it is the result of the multitudes of warnings just not being able to effectively convey how to use the controller safely.

"We are investigating. Some people are getting a lot more excited than we'd expected," he told the Foreign Correspondents Club on Thursday. "We need to better communicate to people how to deal with Wii as a new form of entertainment."

Noted game designer Shigeru Miyamoto then added, "We are encouraging people to understand that you really don't have to be so excited, but rather you need to understand the control and then you're going to be the best player…We are looking into the situation to see if there are additional methods to encourage people to kind of calm down so they would never throw away the controller itself."

In an interview with MTV's Stephen Totilo last week, Nintendo of America president Reginald Fils-Aime also admitted that users may be experiencing these kinds of problems with the Wiimote. Reggie told MTV, "You have to properly attach the strap. Some people aren't quite doing it the right way, which can lead to the Wii remote potentially flying off... So wipe off your hands, use the Wii properly, and don't throw the remote."

Nintendo did not comment on the claims that the straps themselves have been breaking."

Well, at least they're investigating the claims, and I guess that means they'll replace wrist straps for free (or the controller if that's the part breaking) if they do find something to be faulty. But yeah, people really should calm down a bit, like with the controller sticking into the TV in the other thread (it takes a lot of thrust to break most TV's).

Did you see the picture I'm talking about? I didn't think the controller had so much mass to go into the casing of the TV at even a faster than normal speed, and I might need to check again but it looked like a CRT TV.

I've yet to break my wrist strap, and I've been known to get extremely violent in the swinging of my Wiimote.

Did the wrist strap ever come to good use, as in the Wiimote slipped out of your hand and the wrist strap saved it?

Many times, actually. I did a complete 360 once and the controller was flying around with me. The wrist strap served its purpose and prevented further headache. Of course, I got laughed at for the spin. But it was worth it.

I have a question for you DsDewd...
What game were you playing that you actually had to do a 360 for?
