Ha, hi! I'll probably be here a bit more, got myself a Wii! :-) Wish it did HD though, would look so much better on my big HDTV.

A nice quote from John Carmack, the world famous programmer behind Doom/2/3.

"The idea that I can be presented with a problem, set out to logically solve it with the tools at hand, and wind up with a program that could not be legally used because someone else followed the same logical steps some years ago and filed for a patent on it is horrifying." (on software patents)

He came up all on his own with some algorithm for doing some complex graphical thing (I forget what), and then found out later it had been patented by Via I believe, and he had to get permission from them, to use something that he came up with on his own!!

Eh, HD bothers me. It's cool, but the brands need to get their stuff together. The whole thing is completely unfriendly to the consumers.

HD Video rocks if you've got a TV or projector for it, it's like going from 800x600 in a game up to 1280x720, except you're now doing it with video, it makes such an amazing difference.

Anyway, back to the topic.

I heard of an incident where someone invented a new perfume and filed for a patent, then a celebrity found it and filed for a patent on it, and because the celebrity was popular her patent was put in front of the first filed patent and sued the inventor. I'm not sure how true it is, but from the looks of how messed up the patent system is, I believe it.

Hey, long time, no see, Luineancaion! How you been keeping yourself?

I think it's about time they wiped the Patents files clean, and started again...
Or just get rid of them completely.
It would be so much easier on everyone then. ^__^

That'd never happen, Nintendo would just pay the company rather than let that happen, hopefully though Nintendo don't just buckle and pay, and instead fight it. This is screwed up, and when companies just buckle and allow this, it encourages people to do this. There are infact companies that have no products, and just patent ideas, so they can then sue companies.
